TECHNICAL INFORMATION
DECOR
Depending on the project and customer requirements, the front side, back side, or both sides of the panel may be treated using various techniques to achieve diverse 3D textures. As a result, the glass does not have to remain purely flat or curved (maximum bending angle 120°), but may feature surfaces reminiscent of rippling water, hewn stone, or wood grain.
SIZES, BASE VARIANT
The base variant is flat material with nominal dimensions of 700x700 mm (for a surcharge, the dimnesions can be increased to 1000x1000 mm), that we can subject to a fusing process to bend (curve) the glass according to customer requirements. The maximum angle of curvature is 120°.
Notice: The choice of colour determines the maximum size of the panels. Colours containing Triplex Opal (white) can be produced up to a maximum size of 800 × 800 mm. Panels measuring 1000 × 1000 mm are available only in smoke colours combined with crystal.
WEIGHT
The weight of the standard 700x700 mm format is approximately 13 kg. Panels in the maximum possible dimensions (surcharge) weigh approximately 17.5 kg.
THICKNESS
Due to the manufacturing process, it is not possible to achieve precisely the same thickness across the entire panel. Thickness varies between 7–10 mm. We can custom manufacture panels with a maximum thickness of 30 mm. Thicknesses other than the standard 7–10 mm will incur a surcharge. The material has a maximum allowable variance of 2 mm.
Notice: As material thickness increases, not only do optical properties change – such as transparency, light transmission, and light absorption – but the distinctive texture of the glass may also be visually suppressed. This effect is particularly pronounced in smoke colours with a crystal admixture and may be further intensified by the use of an unsuitable black backing or coating. These factors must be carefully considered prior to placing an order. Subsequent claims based on these characteristics will not be accepted.
TEXTURE
The texture varies from one piece to the next and depends on many factors, such as the fractions of the glass fragments, their orientation, dispersion, etc. BG is a special material, and each piece is a unique original. For a surcharge, customers can request a more compact texture in the material achieved by aligning the glass fragments in the piece.
Notice: Depending on the selected material thickness, optical properties such as transparency, transmission, and light absorption may change, as may the visibility of the glass’s unique texture and internal structure. This applies especially to smoke glass with a crystal admixture and may be accentuated by the use of an inappropriate black backing or coating. These factors must be carefully considered prior to placing an order. Subsequent claims based on these characteristics will not be accepted.
COLOURS
The selection of colour options is based on the standard production of Janštejn Glassworks. Currently, there are 14 colours: 1 Triplex Opal BROKISGLASS, 2 smoke colours in combination with crystal (Smoke Grey Triplex Opal BROKISGLASS and Smoke Brown Triplex Opal BROKISGLASS), and 11 colours in combination with Triplex Opal (white).
In the case of Light Pink Triplex Opal BROKISGLASS, the glass may display subtle tones of brown as a result of a slower onset of colour.
For a surcharge, multiple colours can be combined within a single panel according to customer requirements.
SURFACE FINISH
Depends on use. Gloss and matte options are available.
BACK SIDE
Due to the nature of the material and manufacturing processes, the back side is not 100% flat.
In the base variant, the back of the panels is sandblasted, leaving a matte finish. For a gloss finish and for safety reasons, a coating can be applied that acts as a safety film. The safety coating is applied to base variant panels above the standard size of 700 x 700 mm. In custom dimensions (up to 1000 mm), there is a visible joint on the back of the panel, but this has no negative effect on the properties of the material.
SIDES, EDGES FINISH
In the base variant, the edges are chamfered by hand, therefore the same angle cannot be declared along the entire length of the piece. The process softens the sharp edges left behind by the waterjet cutting process. The resulting appearance of the edges is matte as opposed to a polished finish.
Limitation: holes cut in panel cannot be chamfered.
Holes with a minimum diameter of 100 mm can be polished.
Curved edges can be polished only when the curvature is 80°–100°.
The edges on panels larger than the standard 700 mm cannot be mechanically polished. A glossy appearance is achieved by applying a transparent safety coating.
SAFETY LAYER
For both a glossy appearance (alternatively achievable with a standard transparent lacquer) and safety reasons, a transparent safety coating may be applied. This coating functions similarly to a safety film, helping to keep the glass intact in the event of breakage. The coating may be applied to the front side, back side, or both sides. For panel formats exceeding the standard size of 700 × 700 mm, a rear transparent safety coating is applied automatically. In special cases, a white version of the safety coating is also available.
Notice: Application of the safety coating to the front side is not recommended for glass intended for use as tabletops, for instance. The safety coating does not protect against mechanical damage, such as scratching.
DIFFUSION LAYER
Upon request, the rear side of the panels may be treated with a diffusion coating that improves light dispersion and enhances luminous performance when the panels are backlit, while also preventing visibility of the substrate behind the glass. The coating is available in white and black and can be combined with a transparent safety coating; a white safety coating is also available separately.
Notice: The diffusion coating (regardless of colour) is not suitable for backlit smoke glass. In such cases, an individual, project-specific solution is required, and we will be happy to advise you.

DESIGNING WITH BROKISGLASS
CNC MACHINING
At present, CNC machining is not available in-house. Where required, CNC work is carried out in cooperation with external suppliers.
PACKAGING
Ensuring safe delivery requires a specialized approach to packaging. The packaging fee is calculated as 5–10% of the net value of the products depending on the complexity of the order. This fee includes custom pallets designed for the secure transport of glass or wooden crates with protective SealedAir® cushioning material.
SIGN-MAKING
There are limitations to the size and complexity of custom designs. Execution must first be consulted with our team of specialists, who will also recommend the appropriate manufacturing technology (matting/template sandblasting or laser etching). Sign-making falls under custom order and is subject to surcharge.
WATERJET
Since 2019, we have had waterjet technology, thanks to which we can satisfy nearly any customer request. The width of the jet is approximately 1.5–2 mm. The jet cuts with 0.25 mm precision.
Limitation: For safety reasons, the smallest dimension that can be cut out using a waterjet is 50 x 50 mm; minimum hole diameter 5 mm. Customers can request the cutting out of strips, but consideration must be given to their width and length to prevent cracking during manufacture. The general limitation for strip width is 10 mm, alternatively 7 mm for strips that are subsequently sintered into a larger format. The maximum possible dimensions can be consulted with our specialists.
BACKLIGHTING
BROKISGLASS can be backlit. We’re prepared to help customers create custom solutions, including construction and execution. Backlighting requires a minimum of 100 mm from the surface in relation to the construction, LED panels, and cooling. Furthermore, to prevent visibility through the panel to the support structure and electronics, we recommend application of a special diffusion coating to the back of the panels.
TEMPERED/LAMINATED GLASS
NOT in this moment, it is in testing process.
DESIGN DATA REQUIREMENTS
Design data must be submitted at 100% scale in vectors; acceptable file formats include .dwg and .dxf. or 3D model. If necessary, we can help customers prepare the data (subject to surcharge).
WARNING
BG is not intended for settings subject to rapid temperature fluctuations or high mechanical loads and may not be used in place of tempered glass. We do not guarantee the material’s properties if used incorrectly. Prior to use, always consult with our specialists to ensure the suitability of the installation.
APPLICATIONS
A wide range of uses in architecture and design. Consideration must be given to the unique properties and limitations of the glass. BROKISGLASS can be used as façade cladding, and in the interior it can fulfil the role of partitions, countertops, and shower stalls, and it can also be incorporated into interior fittings.
Notice: BROKISGLASS is not suitable for use as floor tiles or flooring applications.
Defects
VISIBLE WATERJET ENTRY POINT
The waterjet entry point takes the form of a subtle notch. This is entirely normal. The technology provides no way to prevent this during manufacture; however, the irregularity is minimized in subsequent operations.
HAIRLINE CRACKS IN THE SURFACE OF THE GLASS
When they appear at joints between individual fragments, they are not grounds for a warranty claim. Such cracks are superficial only and do not extend into the material, thus they have no effect on the declared properties of the material.
SMALL PIGMENT SPOTS
Though rare, small pigment spots (< 1 mm) may occasionally occur. Pigment spots are the result of minerals that are not visible at the time of manufacture but become visible during the process. Pigment spots occur more often in the Triplex Opal (white) glass. Our quality control standards do not permit pigment spots in more than 3% of the surface area. Such anomalies are unique trademarks of handmade glass.
BUBBLES IN THE GLASS
During the manufacturing process, air bubbles may appear in the glass. This is not a defect or a sign of reduced quality and therefore may not be the subject of a warranty claim. We never ship any product that does not meet our strict quality control standards. This represents the uniqueness of the material and its handcrafted production, and the presence of these features covering up to 5% of the material surface with a maximum diameter of 1.5–2 mm in the case of a sealed surface is not grounds for a warranty claim. In the case of larger diameters with an open surface (exceptional cases), these bubbles are ground down and filled with UV-stable material.
